Their eponymous titled debut boasts ║ │ │║ nine numbers, with the band overseeing the ║ │ │║ production duties. For an independent release ║ │ │║ the crunchy guitars, rich keyboards, crisp drums ║ │ │║ and Perry/Waite/Chalfant/Jamison exquisite ║ │ │║ vocals will have melodic rock fans sweating out ║ │ │║ at fever point. 7 Months are Joe Booe ûvocals, ║ │ │║ Chris M.Jacobson ûguitars, Garegin ║ │ │║ Kalajian-Keyboards, BarryMagnuson-Drums and ║ │ │║ Shawn Richkind-bass. The album kicks open into ║ │ │║ pomp heaven with the keyboard driven ÆNew AgeÆ ║ │ │║ which is a lovely pomp AOR track in the vein of ║ │ │║ Journey and Arcara. The next track æChangeÆ had ║ │ │║ me hooked, I really didnÆt think there were any ║ │ │║ Los Angels bands performing AOR this good these ║ │ │║ days. æChangeÆ is a magic track that mixes Bad ║ │ │║ English and The Storm and is very melodic and ║ │ │║ catchy. I really enjoyed the song æStayÆ which ║ │ │║ is a gloriously melodic aÆla The Storm and Hugo, ║ │ │║ the song builds hook upon hook of superb ║ │ │║ harmonies and just the right amount of ║ │ │║ keyboards, BooeÆs vocals carry the song into the ║ │ │║ first division. æStart It OverÆ is a perfect ║ │ │║ example of how to write quality ballads, this is ║ │ │║ AOR at itÆs finest and itÆs scary how close to ║ │ │║ Hugo and Steve Perry Joe Booe is, he is the best ║ │ │║ new singer of the year without a doubt, somebody ║ │ │║ sign this band for gawds sake! The songs ║ │ │║ provides the right amount of guitars and the ║ │ │║ song builds into something similar to The Storm, ║ │ │║ Boulevard and Aviator, magic stuff. And it ║ │ │║ doesnÆt stop there as æSay GoodbyeÆ is where the ║ │ │║ band rip it up and is gloriously melodic and ║ │ │║ dead catchy, just take a listen to BooeÆs voice ║ │ │║ during the chorus backed my the monstrous guitar ║ │ │║ from Chris M.Jacobson. This song takes the best ║ │ │║ of Survivor and Toto and mixes it with Drive, ║ │ │║ She Said and Shooting Star, great stuff. æYou ║ │ │║ And MeÆ is a lovely piano led ballad that is ║ │ │║ performed with heartfelt emotion, whilst æThe ║ │ │║ NightÆ turned into one of my favourite songs ║ │ │║ because it manages to be constantly fluent and ║ │ │║ melodic and catchy with huge huge Perry ║ │ │║ exquisite vocals and glorious guitar work. What ║ │ │║ I donÆt understand is why 7 Months havenÆt been ║ │ │║ snapped up yet by labels such as Frontiers or ║ │ │║ Escape, perhaps the band havenÆt sent in the ║ │ │║ album to them yet, in which case I strongly urge ║ │ │║ them to as those labels will love this album, ║ │ │║ what more could a label want, they look like a ║ │ │║ proper rock band with long hair etc, and they ║ │ │║ have the potential to go really far Next up is ║ │ │║ æSometimesÆ which is melodic but heavier on the ║ │ │║ vocals and immense guitars, what I like about ║ │ │║ Booes voice and the album as a whole that is ║ │ │║ sounds very natural, BooeÆs sings as if he means ║ │ │║ it on every song, and one of the differences ║ │ │║ with 7 Months compared to other AOR bands is the ║ │ │║ that the guitar are let loose but without ║ │ │║ loosing the essence of melody such as on this ║ │ │║ track where the tapping really rips and left me ║ │ │║ in awe as Jacobson is fantastic player. Also ║ │ │║ respect to Garegin Kalajian whose keyboards are ║ │ │║ very well performed, thatÆs it you see, you can ║ │ │║ hear each instrumental clearly and it wouldnÆt ║ │ │║ suprise me if 7 Months in years to come end up ║ │ │║ heavier with each album aÆla Dream Theatre cause ║ │ │║ right now I keep thinking of Dream Theatre where ║ │ │║ the guitars and keys are concerned which is no ║ │ │║ bad thing. We end the album with yet another ║ │ │║ majestic song called æSenorita SerenadeÆ that is ║ │ │║ huge melodic rock. There really isnÆt a song on ║ │ │║ this record that didnÆt more me, each one is has ║ │ │║ its own identity and thus 7 Months are clearly ║ │ │║ the band to keep your eyes on ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ I was hooked on 7 Months after about seven ║ │ │║ seconds. That was the point at which I realized ║ │ │║ this Los Angeles-based quintet wasn't an average ║ │ │║ melodic hard rock band. Indeed, Now & ║ │ │║ Then/Frontiers Records, one of Europe's finest ║ │ │║ labels, has diversified its previously ║ │ │║ AOR/MHR-heavy roster this year with several ║ │ │║ progressive-tinged acts, and 7 Months is among ║ │ │║ the best of their latest signings. With a sound ║ │ │║ that crosses Pink Cream 69, Extreme and ║ │ │║ latter-period Alan Parsons Project with Saga, ║ │ │║ Kansas and even Trans-Siberian Orchestra, 7 ║ │ │║ Months boast clear and soaring vocals, solid ║ │ │║ musicianship and strong arrangements that are ║ │ │║ free to roam but tight enough not to ramble. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Singer Joe Booe's voice sounds at home wrapped ║ │ │║ around all-out rockers, mid-tempo songs and ║ │ │║ ballads. Highlights include the opener "New ║ │ │║ Age," "Change," "Stay" and "The Night" (the ║ │ │║ first song the band wrote together). Many of the ║ │ │║ nine songs here begin softly and build, such as ║ │ │║ "Sometimes," which features an orchestral ║ │ │║ opening, and "Senorita Serenade," the epic ║ │ │║ closer that blends sounds of the sea into a ║ │ │║ piano melody line before Booe's elegant vocals ║ │ │║ begin moving the song toward its memorable ║ │ │║ chorus. Booe manages to coax everything he can ║ │ │║ from each note, leaving a huge opening into ║ │ │║ which the band can carry their music for the ║ │ │║ next album. It boggles the mind trying to figure ║ │ │║ out how these guys wrote four of the songs on ║ │ │║ this record during just two rehearsal sessions. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ A couple tracks fail to elicit as much ║ │ │║ excitement as the rest of the songs on this ║ │ │║ album, but they're still too good to be ║ │ │║ considered filler. This ranks as one of the more ║ │ │║ promising debuts I've heard all year. By ║ │ │║ seamlessly melding genres, 7 Months prove that ║ │ │║ melodic hard rock need not sound formulaic to ║ │ │║ cynical listeners and that progressive rock need ║ │ │║ not be inaccessible to mainstream listeners. My ║ │ │║ biggest complaint: At 47 minutes, this disc just ║ │ │║ isn't long enough. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Keyboarder Greg und Gitarrist Chris von 7 Months ║ │ │║ lernten sich im MI (Musicians Institut) in Los ║ │ │║ Angeles kennen. Die Band spielt folglich auf ║ │ │║ einem sehr hohen Niveau und so widmen sich die ║ │ │║ Amerikaner dem progressiv angehauchten Hardrock. ║ │ │║ Musikalisch lΣsst man also nichts anbrennen und ║ │ │║ vergisst vor allem nie den Song. So ist diese ║ │ │║ Scheibe fⁿr AOR-Fans genauso interessant wie fⁿr ║ │ │║ Proggies. Obwohl, sie klar dem traditionellen ║ │ │║ Hardrock fr÷hnen, merkt man bei genauem Hinh÷ren ║ │ │║ ihre Einflⁿsse. So h÷rt man neben typischen ║ │ │║ Progrockbands durchaus auch einmal kurz einen ║ │ │║ Jimi Hendrix raus (½Say goodbye╗). Interessant ║ │ │║ an dieser Scheibe ist auch, dass man bei genauem ║ │ │║ Hinh÷ren immer mehr Sachen entdeckt, kleine ║ │ │║ Details, die die Songs speziell machen. Seien ║ │ │║ das leicht jazzige Pianopassagen im Hintergrund ║ │ │║ oder andere Sachen. SΣnger Joe Booe h÷rt sich ║ │ │║ etwas wie Michael Kiske in tieferen Lagen an, ║ │ │║ wobei vor allem der ruhige Song ½Stay╗ an den ║ │ │║ Deutschen erinnert, dort sehr stark der ║ │ │║ Gesangslinien wegen. Dieser Song hΣtte locker ║ │ │║ auf einem Kiske-Soloalbum sein k÷nnen. Viele ║ │ │║ Songs sind neben klaren Pianopassagen von ║ │ │║ leichten Keyboardteppichen unterlegt, die so ║ │ │║ clever arrangiert sind, dass sie nie ║ │ │║ aufdringlich wirken, ja fast nicht wahr genommen ║ │ │║ werden. Auf der anderen Seite werden dann aber ║ │ │║ sch÷ne Keyboard-Soli gespielt, die denen von ║ │ │║ Dream Theater nicht unΣhnlich sind. 7 Months ║ │ │║ ver÷ffentlichen ein Debut, das wahrscheinlich in ║ │ │║ Europa im Moment erfolgreicher sein dⁿrfte denn ║ │ │║ in den Staaten, da die Amis doch mehr auf ║ │ │║ Trendmucke stehen. Trotzdem wΣre ihnen gr÷ssere ║ │ │║ Beachtung auch ⁿberm Teich zu g÷nnen. Bis die ║ │ │║ Jungs ⁿbrigens alle zueinander gefunden hatten, ║ │ │║ dauerte es sieben Monate, wΣhrend sieben Monaten ║ │ │║ wurde fleissig an Songs geschrieben und auch die ║ │ │║ Aufnahmen dauerten sieben Monate. Welcher ║ │ │║ Bandname wΣre also nΣher gelegen?
