Riaa rules, unfortunately not yet updated, still mention the Xing codec as not acceptable, referring to the version 1.0 which was indeed poor. We believe that 2.1 produces the best results possible, because: 1. The Xing codec offers the same bandwidth as all HQ fraunhofer codecs, i.e. 20 KHz 2. VBR HQ adapts the bitrate from 96 to 320 kpbs, according to the program encoded. This results in better quality and smaller files as compared with even 192 kbps constant bitrate files. 3. VBR files help reduce traffic and storage needs without compromising the quality of the music.
