He has gained popularity from his pop songs that depict descriptive stories from his own personal experiences. He also gained much attention from his demos. In addition, to his solo project, Benjamin has found success in songwriting with artists such as Jon Bellion, including a songwriting credit on the track "New York Soul" from Bellion's album The Human Condition. He is heavily influenced by artists such as Eminem, John Mayer, Paul Simon and Ben Gibbard. In 2019, he recorded two singles with Spotify Studios NYC, one of them being a cover of Eminem's song, "Stan."Initially, Alec Benjamin signed to Columbia Records, whilst still being enrolled at USC.
