Allmusic.com says:
The future of rock & roll is surely guaranteed with
acts such as American Hi-Fi. Delivering fresh new
strains to the genre on their eponymous debut, they
maintain a high quality standard throughout the whole
record. The consistence of their work comes from
providing pop/rock and raw, strong rock & roll. Stacy
Jones, the band's frontman, previously worked with
crews such as Letter to Cleo and Veruca Salt as a
drummer. Here, he showcases his expertise, this time on
guitar and vocals. Listening to the band's first
single, "Flavor of the Weak," almost gives the
impression of hearing the most common of pop acts
trying to sell out a single and fly away. However, that
thought rapidly gets dismissed with songs like
"Surround" or "My Only Enemy," in which American Hi-Fi
prove their skill and ability. Demonstrating a coherent
musical direction, the team gashes their way on sincere
and inspiring compositions such as "Safer on the
Outside" and "Don't Wait for the Sun." The latter also
represents the core of their songs: ideal pop/rock
lyrics that aren't too transcendent, but are still
thrilling enough to appeal to most young pop fans.
American Hi-Fi aims high, and they certainly went even
further on this pleasing disc.
Go and buy the album if you like it!
