Originally part of the Fall Particles 2012 compilation, Andrew Benson captured the very essence of modern progressive house with his track I Will Be. The Russian has risen rapidly since his first work for Olaris in 2010 and reprising the smooth pulsating bass line of the original mix, I Will Be now receives two new interpretations from industry legends as the Pinkbox Special duo of Derek Howell and Peter Martin take up the production reins. Derek Howell needs little introduction to the underground house fraternity. 300 Beatport production credits grace his portfolio as an eponymously named debut EP for Bedrock propelled him in to the stratosphere from day one. Surrounded by music from an early age and encouraged to pursue his dreams of reaching others with his skill and creative talent, Howell's work for a plethora of labels and appearances on such compilations as Nick Warren's GU 028: Shanghai, Desyn Masiello's Balance 08 and two Hernan Cattaneo Renaissance albums, provide an unrivalled blue chip resume. Long-time friend of the Proton family, 50 production credits for Proton Music tells its own story. 2012's, phenomenal, two-part Laughing While Running EP is the most recent in a string of successful remixes and original productions for the label. Returning to Particles for the first time since 2010, Derek Howell's remix of I Will Be is typically pioneering in its execution. Evolving with organic ease, percussive rhythms find themselves partnered by clever manipulation of the melodic themes present in Benson's original as a repeated motif shimmers and glides in infinitely filtered glory, adding depth and dynamism in equal measure. Like Howell, Peter Martin hails from the 'Lone Star' State. From his USA, Houston home, Martin has developed a similarly glittering career path to his fellow countryman. After the huge success of the Pinkbox Special pairing alongside Howell, Martin's solo work began in striking fashion with the superb Perfect Wave for Armada owned Electronic Elements. Since then, a raft of work has been signed to a stellar line-up of modern, high profile imprints including, Lost Language, Baroque and microCastle. Indeed, it is with the latter that Martin has formed a symbiotic relationship that has seen almost 40 production credits, including 2009's standout Heat EP with remixes from Howell and Hungarian super-producer, Lank. Following on from a clutch of releases for Proton between 2005 and 2007, Peter Martin's remix of Derek Howell's Stride in 2011 marked another high point in the American's production career. A 2013 remix of Stephen J. Kroos' Fragile for Particles marked a return to the Proton fold, followed now by Peter Martin's take on I Will Be. A deliciously groove-laden affair, a bouncing bass line filters its crunchy path across pulsing pads, twisted musical refrains and a collage of straight house beats. All elements combine to reach a rousing, twinkling crescendo before dropping back into a locked groove of magical quality providing a track of outstanding execution. With remixes from two of the finest producers of their generation, the simple future of Andrew Benson's I Will Be is very bright indeed.
