It's maybe a bit too polished to be truly authentic roots music, but ultimately it's quite well-done pop music. "Smile Me Down" is a great start to the album, and while most of the rest of the album doesn't quite match up to the beginning, there are enough good moments (notably "Trail of Tears") to make Time and Place a satisfying listen.
