Three tracks with a head nod towards the deeper end of the underground house spectrum combined with two delicate and elegant sounding downtempo pieces, the EP now receives remix treatments courtesy of a fellow countryman and a Dutch master as Soul Tax, Pt. 2 now comes to the fore. Scott Andrews has matured into one of the UK's most respected underground house producers in recent times. A talent that has grown as the music industry has changed, his Scotty.A production moniker has continued to blossom as tastes have shifted in the wider context of dance music. A competition winner through is remix of Denis A's Heroin, Scotty's passion for music and complete dedication to his craft have meant that his work is always much anticipated by fans and peers alike. Well over a century of production credits tell their own story allied to such imprints as Tulipa, ARVA and Axon, supplemented by DJ appearances across Europe and beyond, including a turn at John Digweed's Bedrock and Sasha's Last Night On Earth nights in London. Moreover, Scotty.A's relationship with Proton Music has borne a wealth of fruit in both a number of original EPs and a clutch of outstanding remixes. Taking on Anthony Yarranton, Scotty.A's remix of Marrakech is typical of the mature sound so prevalent in his recent work. Cleverly reworking the original, a sublime groove rolls in effortless fashion, evolving gently accompanied by rhythmic stabs that drift joyously atop, filling the stereo spectrum with delicious reverb. This is high-calibre work. Oscar van der Knapp has been a modern marvel under his Exoplanet pseudonym. A rare capacity for portraying a range of different sounds, Oscar's gift of synaesthesia affords him the ability to view geometrical objects with a tactile texture. Influenced by philosophy, science and literature, the Exoplanet sound is a joy to behold. Long-term friend of both the Proton Music and Particles imprint, the Exoplanet name has been attached to almost a century of production credits for the latter. An astute producer whose original work leaves listeners in awe of his impressive production talent, the recent Arboreal Kingdom is testament to that skill set. Moreover, 2011's full-length album, Nothing Divides Us Here was a Proton Music highlight, followed, in the same year, by the quartet of track that made up the techno inspired Delta EP. Returning to the label for the first time since 2011, the Exoplanet remix of Happens To Be is another masterpiece full of the musical sensibilities that adorn the Dutchman's work. A beautifully smooth piece, Exoplanet takes Yarranton's original and works it into a compelling underground piece, full of melodic assurance and the complex rhythmic interplay that is a hallmark of his craft. As the track develops free form melodies swirl and scud across the higher frequency spectrum weaving a magical spell. With two new remixes from Scotty.A and Exoplanet, Anthony Yarranton's Soul Tax has a good deal of revenue left to collect.
