Born in Villanueva, Zacatecas, Mexico, Aguilar's singing talent landed him a spot on the popular 1950s radio station, XEW. His talent was also showcased in various 1950s movies, including Mi Papa Tuvo la Culpa, Mauricio Rosales and El Rayo, a series of popular movies. From the 1960s through the 1980s, Aguilar was considered one of the most powerful figures in the Mexican entertainment industry. A legend at home and abroad, Aguilar has more than 150 movies and 160 records to his credit. In 1997, he was awarded a humanitarian award for his influence on Latin-American culture.
