The Chameleon Sunday EP appeared on streaming services earlier this year with no marketing or social media to speak of. The music is credited to Daniel Gunnarsson and Epidemic Sound, the former of which seems to be a credited songwriter for the latter, a music publishing company. But if this is just stock music, believe us, it shouldnÆt be. Stemming from the popularity of new-age worldly funk/jazz fusion from the likes of bands including Khruangbin, The Mattson 2 and The Babe Rainbow among others, Arc de SoleilÆs EP is expansive, inspired and, above all else, perfectly chilled out. The standout is the last track Sahara Cowboy, which lives up to itÆs name with impossibly slick and cool surf-y, spaghetti-western inspired guitars sliding across colorful drum grooves. Tasteful bass pops in and out, giving the song layers and depth, and the crisp guitar melds in with the rhythmic groove for a dreamy, winding and colourful trip that glides by in a brief three minutes. The track is equally suited to intent listening as background noise, and has an inherently joyous and optimistic sonic vibe to it thanks to touches of subtle percussion and a charming groove that digs itÆs way into your head and doesnÆt let go. Chameleon Sunday seems suited to any situation, and fits perfectly in with the resurgence of excellent, internationally flavored psych-funk that is rightfully taking center stage in the mainstream consciousness of the growing modern psychedelic scene.
