The group has been active in the centro sociale scene, especially with Rome's Forte Presentino. The group used money from the sale of their self-distributed recordings to build a recording studio at Forte Prenestino. Assalti Frontali, along with other Roman posses (including One Love Hi Power, AK 47, Musica Forte, and 00199), founded La Cordata label, producing albums by Lou X, Brutopop, and South Posse. In 1991, Assalti released the cassette single "Baghdad 1.9.9.1.," a rap on the Gulf War. Two years later the group released the song "Sud" which formed the basis for Gabriele Salvatores's film about the occupation of a southern social center. The group refused to have the song released on the film's soundtrack and for awhile it could only be found in vinyl form. Their second album, Conflitto was recorded and mixed at Forte Prenestino by Don Zientara, and was sold by the left wing newspaper Il Manifesto with the "political price" of 25,000 lire. The group signed with BMG in 1998 to record three albums. The year before, Militant A published the book "Storie di assalti frontali" that explained why the politically engaged band had signed with a multinational compnay. Ice One produced their first BMG release Banditi.
