Far from complex ambient, Augur is more like its namesake, an oscillating piece of crafted machinery, and it rarely tries to be anything other than absolute minimalism of a few combined samples. It isn't as polished as it could be, but given this was recorded live, it suits the immediate atmosphere filling in the space between uncomfortable moments. Disjointed and hollow mechanical chatter succumbs to the blanket of low-fi in nearly all tracks, no surprises, just languid disassociates. Not a memorable album for innovation, but one that could happily simmer at an art gallery to parallel the obnoxious posers shuffling. More experimental than dark. Presented in a clear jewel-case, the release features no sleeve, with the window focusing on the black and white icon circular saw-like design silk-screened onto the CD. A back cover features a spiral of concentric circles of words that with song titles explain the origin of the disc; "This is a documentation of a live improvisation at the kiva 8.29.99...
