The co-production was effectively a split one, with Bim bringing in three tunes from Jamaica recorded and mixed at the then dominant Channel One and Harry J's, with the final voicings taking place in Waterhouse at King Tubby's studio. Of these three, "Golden Locks" was an edit of an earlier 1979 UK release of the tune as a 12" on the Savannah label, whilst, "Slummy Ghetto" was a remake of "10,000 Ethiopians" and "Party Time" a version of "Lightening and Thunder" - both out as 7" pre-releases on Scorpio. The remaining songs utilised a variety of rhythm beds from the rich source of the On-U Sound recording production machine, two of which can be found as dub versions on Dub Syndicate's "Pounding System". "Across The Red Sea" was originally released in 1982, a time when roots reggae was distinctly passe to both critics and the majority of the audience for what was the then emerging dancehall scene. It is perhaps for these reasons that the album has never adopted its rightful place in the history of Jamaican/UK reggae, together with the fact that Sherwood's production techniques tended to alienate those reggae purists who like to consume their music with a Caribbean seasoning...."
