Despite that fact, I pushed aside every █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ other album in my collection and listened to Nightfall █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ in Middle Earth exclusively for the next few weeks. Not █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ once, did this album grow tiresomeànever did I skip a █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ single track. Blind Guardian taught me a lesson in █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ musical, emotional variety. No longer did metal require █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ brutality to hold my attention. Such a compelling album █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ almost single-handedly served as a gateway that █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ expanded my tastes further into the annals of heavy █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ metal variety. █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ Now, onto the heart of the musicà █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ Blind Guardian truly created a masterpiece of melting █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ pot genres. At times, the album is laced with █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ high-octane speed: pounding double bass and rapid, █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ alternate picking. Without warning, Guardian switches █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ to appropriate pompousness: soaring, operatic vocals █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ and memorable melodies. Nightfall in Middle Earth █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ combines speed and power metal, folk music, choir and █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ classical. The songs flawlessly change tempos and █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ symphonic elements mix with aggression. Each track █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ leaves the listener at a lost to guess whatÆs next. █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ Technically can often be a slippery slope, leading too █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ excessive, instrumental masturbation. Blind Guardian █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ does not fall into that trap on this album. Instead, █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ the bandÆs instrumental prowess enriches the music, █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ rather than bogging it down with narcissism. Marcus █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ Siepen handles the role of rhythm guitarist with █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ beautiful precision. The riffs alone are more █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ technically apt than a great number of solos performed █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ by other artists, yet never create an aura of boredom █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ (unlike Dragonforce). AndrΘ OlbrichÆs agility with the █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ six-string is nothing less than astonishing. His █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ flawless leads cover every aspect that makes a metal █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ guitarist great: eloquence: melodic creativity and █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ restrained virtuosity.
