Rick Cobb III ░▐ ▌░ (drummer) was replaced on this release by Randy Reeder ░▐ ▌░ (drummer). ░▐ ▌░ ░▐ ▌░ When considering Bloodrock's Whirlwind Tongues as not only an ░▐ ▌░ LP but a material symptom of the changes and crises ░▐ ▌░ surrounding it, one hardly knows where to begin. By this ░▐ ▌░ point, Bloodrock were nearing a total creative demise, ░▐ ▌░ falling far down the tubes of experimentation as could only ░▐ ▌░ the most foolhardy bands of the time. To be perfectly blunt, ░▐ ▌░ the band's only hit thus far had been the nihilistic "D.O.A." ░▐ ▌░ off their second LP from 1970, which had done fairly well in ░▐ ▌░ establishing a place for the Texans amongst the southern ░▐ ▌░ heavy metal crowd. By 1973, however, Bloodrock's future was ░▐ ▌░ looking comparatively grim. A year prior, the band had ░▐ ▌░ undergone major personnel changes and consequently a totally ░▐ ▌░ new sound and ideology were being presented by born-again ░▐ ▌░ Christian and flute-blowing frontman replacement Warren Ham ░▐ ▌░ Completely gone were the CCR-infused, riff driven rockers of ░▐ ▌░ old - replaced by something resembling a highly confused ░▐ ▌░ Jethro Tull outfit. Needless to say, the suits at Capitol ░▐ ▌░ Records were less than thrilled. ░▐ ▌░ ░▐ ▌░ While it can be safely assumed that Ham's creative vision may ░▐ ▌░ have been fully satiated by releasing an album like Whirlwind ░▐ ▌░ Tongues, the fans only grew more alienated with what was fast ░▐ ▌░ becoming a total fiasco. Listening to Whirlwind Tongues from ░▐ ▌░ front to back, one can't help but feel overwhelmed by the ░▐ ▌░ sheer volume of genres effectively being thrown into a ░▐ ▌░ blender. The album as a whole exudes a myriad of styles and ░▐ ▌░ time signatures throughout - whether the listener is steeped ░▐ ▌░ in the white boy blues antics of "Sunday Song", being ░▐ ▌░ not-quite-lulled by the saccharine sweet crooning of "Guess ░▐ ▌░ What I Am", or reconsidering his LP purchase altogether after ░▐ ▌░ getting an earful of the man-made 'animal noises' found in ░▐ ▌░ the album's closer "Jungle". Conversely, the only cuts that ░▐ ▌░ come anywhere close to establishing some kind of link with ░▐ ▌░ the band's not-so-distant past would have to be "Parallax", ░▐ ▌░ "Voices" and possibly the spastic opener "It's Gonna Be ░▐ ▌░ Love". Additionally, the boys do take a pretty impressive ░▐ ▌░ shot at "Eleanor Rigby" for posterity. The rest of the album, ░▐ ▌░ however, is largely remembered as one great big creative ░▐ ▌░ spill that unfortunately cost the band their future. ░▐ ▌░ ░▐ ▌░ ░▐ ▌░ ▄▄▄┌─────────────┐▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄ ░▐ ▌░ ▒▒▒│ marr │▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ ░▐ ▌░ └─────────────┘ ░▐ ▌░ ░▐ ▌░ indie . pop . rock . shoegaze . dream . jangle . twee ░▐ ▌░ chamber . noise . c-86 . college . goth . post . kraut ░▐ ▌░ darkwave . alternative . lo-fi . country . americana ░▐ ▌░ folk . folk/rock . psychedelic . progressive . metal ░▐ ▌░ heavy . hair . math . grunge . classic . southern . aor ░▐ ▌░ west coast . punk . garage . avantgarde . classical ░▐ ▌░ electronic . ambient ░▐ ▌░ ░▐ ▌░ ░▐ ░▌░ ░ █ █ ░ ░▐░ ▌░ ▓▓█ █▓▓ ░▐ ▌░ ░█ █░ ░▐ ▌░ █ ░ ▒ ░ ░ ▒ ░ █ ░▐ ░ ▌░██ ░ ▒█████░ ░█████▒ ░ ██░▐ ░ ▒ ░ ▌░█ ░ ███▓ ▓██ ▒ ▒ ██▓ ▓███ ░ █░▐ ░ ▒ ░██ ▌█▓ ████ █▒ ▒█ ████ ▓░▐ ██░ ░██████░ ███ █ █ ███ ░██████░ ██████ ███ █ █ ███ ██████ ▒███ ███▒ ██ █ █ ██ ▒███ ███▒ ████ ████████ ▒ █ █ ▒ ████████ ████ ████░ ███████░ ░░ █ █ ░░ ░███████ ░████ █████░ ████▒ ▒ ▓█ █▒ ▒█ █▓ ▒ ▒████ ░█████ █████░ ██████████ ███ █ █ ███ ██████████ ░█████ ▒██████ ░ ███████▒ ████▒▒█ █▒▒████ ▒███████ ░ ██████▒ ░ ███░ ███ ░ * █▓▓ ▓▓ ▓▓█ * ░ ███ ░███ ░ █░ ███ █░ *** * * █▒█▒▒██████▒▒█▒█ * * *** ░█ ███ ░█ ████ ██ * ████████ ████████ * ██ ████ ████████ * *** ░ ░██████ ██████░ ░ *** * ████████ █████ ** ░ ████ ▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓ ████ ░ ** █████ ▒█████████████▒▒ ░░ ░░ ▒▒█████████████▒ ░▓██████████▒ ░░ ░░ ▒██████████▓░ ▒█████ ░░ ░░ █████▒ ███ ███ ██ ██ ▒█ █▒ https://play.google.com/store/music/album?id=Be3sezoxb7p64pcwgk6cadago6u
