The mysterious artist slows things down a little here to move slightly further into the fields of trip-hop and downtempo electronics. Take a track like st. Spi 9 [+ruggedy crnk] - before it accelerates into a Braindance end-section youd be forgiven for thinking this was the work of Floating Points or Bonobo, what with the neck-snapping mid-tempo groove and lights-low FM keys. Elsewhere the time-stretched, syrupy drums of Aow fibb [live jam version] could have been jacked from an early Mr. Scruff record while QUILAT SPRING verges on acid jazz. At points Brainwaltzera even strips out most of the beats and allows the listener to luxuriate in morning-phase synth work - see æecclesiastical conundrum [glassy grass morning mix]Æ on this count. While Alepoch is a relatively cerebral listen by BrainwaltzeraÆs standards there are still times here when the producers idiosyncratic strain of IDM shines through. With its clattering 808s and woozy lead-line errguie diem seems to have been put at the start of Alepoch to remind listeners not to lose sight of who made this record. æst. Spi 9 [+ruggedy crnk]Æs aforementioned beat workout is quintessential Brainwaltzera - as is the halftime skullduggery of æduious d^v^y [prev. Only4bleep_mix]. As usual, Brainwaltzera manages to bring humanity to their machines no matter how quick the beats are.
