Not all of these bands have released brand █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ new recordings yet, theyÆre taking their time wisely, █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ including our friends here who released this album ten █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ whole years after they announced their reunionà █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ and the other, probably disappointing, piece of news is █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ that the guys are no moreà yes, they have split up █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ again. Well, at least they left this affair here for █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ their fans who must have hoped for another ôdeathyö ode █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ to all things erotic which their last album was. The █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ band were my favourites from the whole English thrash █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ kaleidoscope of the 80Æs as I found their █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ steam-rolling, intimidatingly stomping approach to the █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ genre quite appealing and pretty unique since it wasnÆt █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ based on any speedy histrionics, and yet it exuded █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ menace and belligerence to spare. █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ Not in the case here, though; to begin with, the most █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ representative member of the band, the hoarse banshee █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ Simon Forrest isnÆt here his place taken by a not very █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ expressive subdued deathy semi-reciter. In other words, █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ no highlights whatsoever from the vocal department the █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ guitars coming with a noisy-ish, abrasive edge which at █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ least on ôJustifyö is not that annoying as this cut █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ tries to keep up with the guysÆ staple pounding █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ delivery. So far, so not so bad but comes ôMosh █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ Injuryö, a bit over a min of spastic brutal hardcore, █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ and the element of surprise suddenly gets quite big █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ also with the addition of better cleaner vocals. From █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ this moment on the album degenerates into █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ one-dimensional thrashy hardcore mish-mash as at some █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ point the band even start imitating the roller-coaster █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ style of Suicidal Tendencies and M.O.D. (ôSkate Fearö); █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ so much for uniqueness and following your own path... █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ ôReality Pillô slows down, but this is nothing more █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ than another, a tad more laid-back, hardcore-ish piece █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ the pogo continued right after with the stripped-down █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ basher ôDear Mother Earthö and the The Exploited cover █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ of ôDead Citiesö, a statement made loudÆn clear, only █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ altered for ôFelted Crossö, an excellent belligerent █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ stomper that could easily qualify for the ôDeath █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ Eroticaö, but also making the situation even sadder for █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ the lost opportunity here, the album sinking further █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ down, below the average level, with another hardcore █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ non-sense (ôInside My Gutsö), and a hidden track which █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ is just an awful industrial pseudo-electronic waste of █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ space. █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ Needless to add, this opus left me so fuckinÆ depressed █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ for a number of days as I tried at the same time to █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ partly justify its existence; after all, it shouldnÆt █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ be such a bad idea for a veteran to revisit their roots █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ as a reunion stunt, but trying to produce a copy of █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ their already patchy debut, made worse by the overall █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ lack of primal aggression that at least made the latter █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ tolerable for most of the time, was just a █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ mis-calculated decision that didnÆt fit the old school █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ resurrection campaign of the new millennium that well, █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ simply because it wasnÆt exactly metal for a large █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ portion of the time. With the wild rending Forrest █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ behind the mike it would have at least had some raw, █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ unpolished charm and by all means the desired link to █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ the past recordingsà without him this effort misses out █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ on the main redeeming quality that could have made it █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ stay in the fansÆ collection, even if only as a failed █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ attempt at bringing a strong 80Æs behemoth back to █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ life. █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ Disaster maybe not, but a forgivable flop definitely; █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ itÆs not outrageously unapologetic, and those valuable █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ hints at the last three instalments should still be █░▓▒ ░ * * ░ ▒▓░█ considered.
