We welcome Canadian electronic music producer Chad Kay back to Piston Recordings with the fantastic Misanthropic EP. This one follows his Autumn 2021 debut with us, Dream In RGB EP, which proved popular among many. Chad's career in music began when he was playing keys for the indie band Porcelain. Synthesizers, samplers, drum machines and house music were always at the root of his love for music, so it was natural that he began producing on his own and embark on a new journey as a solo artist. Nice to have him back for more. Misanthropic opens the release, delivering a superb, filtered groove that will excite the floors no doubt. Punchy beats and slicing hats combine as warm chords fill the space. A playful bass adds a funky vibe, making this a must have. Ain't Got Nothing On Me is up next, introing with spacious chords and plucky notes. Crispy hi hats are joined by chunky kicks and a warm, analogue bassline. Squelchy 303's creates contrasting acid lines which adds an unexpected twist to the groove that will translate to the floors with gusto. The penultimate, Sunday Morning Cynic, opens with rich chords and super bright hats before punchy 909 kicks set the pace. Deep, warm basses caress the groove as the chords become infectious, luring us in for the duration. A top-notch cut, no doubt. Rounding out the release, The Call Back sets the floor alight with a strong groove and filled with a myriad of deep house flavours.
