If the name sounds familiar, then congratulations - you must have heard of her previous outfit Captain Audio. Sonic experimentation married to subtle melodic backgrounds made Captain Audio stand out. Here, multi-instrumentalist Chellew lets her pop side come to therefore and it makes for a strong entrance into this new phase of her career. Chellew is not just a strong songwriter, but exhibits a healthy regard for experimentation. While the melodies on Hits The Miss are indeed pronounced, Chellew adds of variety of styles to the mix. Successful are the rhythmic workout of Gotta Go and, surprisingly, the authentic Country Song (right down to it's pedal steel guitar). It sounds like Chellew is having a good time here, not only with This Love and its cool groove and the hint of T. Rex that comes through on Fire, but with her choice of covers. Chellew does a reverent Lay Lady Lay and turns around to offer her own interpretation of I Wanna Be Sedated disguised as a track called Something For Joey. Chellew opts for a slow drone here, draining the original of its urgency but somehow manageing to appreciate the melancholy mood the song could bring with the right instrumental backing. That's no small feat. It's nice to see that what looks to be the end of Captain Audio doesn't mean the end of this creative and thought-provoking talent.
