1970, when he was chosen to record and tour with drummer/bandleader, Buddy Miles, Mercury Records' number one R&B artist at the time. Charlie recorded four albums with Miles in two years including the legendary Them Changes. He toured internationally with Buddy Miles, including opening for Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana and other iconic acts. In 1972, Charlie left to form his own band White Chocolate with David Hull on bass, signing with RCA Records the same year. In 1975, Charlie signed with Sire Records and released a single called "Rock & Roll Love Letter", which was later covered by the Bay City Rollers. Charlie and Hull later reformed and renamed their band, The Dirty Angels, releasing 2 LPs; "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye", in 1977 (produced by a musicians favorite, Richard Gotterher), on the Private Stock label, followed the following year by "Dirty Angles" on A&M. In 1979, the band toured extensively with Aerosmith on the Double Live Bootleg Tour. Charlie spent most of the 1980s, writing songs and doing session work as a tasty guitarist. Charlie's songs were recorded by a number of noteworthy artists including Joan Jett and Joe Perry. He also produced the self-titled debut album, Ram Jam resulting with the bandÆs one hit single, Black Betty. In 1987 Charlie recorded a solo album called "Charlie Karp And The Name Droppers". In the mid-1990Æs, Charlie formed the blues-rock duo Slo Leak with legendary producer /guitarist Danny Kortchmar and ex-Paul Butterfield bassist Harvey Brooks. The band released three albums including the 1999 critically acclaimed, "When The Clock Strikes" on TVT Records. Karp continued writing, producing, teaching guitar and performing, usually in New York City and around the Fairfield, Connecticut area that he called home.
