Circus Contraption is an honest-to-goodness, one-ring traveling circus based in Seattle, Washington. No circus worth its salt would venture out without a live band, and Circus Contraption has one of the best around, churning out loony-croony, quirky-jerky, gypsy carnival opera music. They create "grandly kaleidoscopic" music incorporating vocals, accordion, banjo, guitar, bass, clarinet, piano, saxophone, musical saw, trumpet, trombone, tuba, washboard, drums, beer bottles, rusty junk and elbow grease. "Gallimaufry" presents music from the show of the same name, which debuted in 2002. The show received glowing praise both at home in Seattle and on the road in cities such as Chicago, San Francisco, and Denver. From the stumble-drunk waltz of "Lover's Trapeze" to the blazing gypsy brass band romp of "Wooly Hat," this CD evokes the sights and sounds of a decidedly off-kilter troupe of miscreants from the wrong side of town. As a special bonus, this CD also includes a video of our acclaimed "Opera Diva" act, which won first place in the "Pizzazz!" talent show at Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival in 2003.
