A debut of considerable aplomb saw Color Ray hit the Proton Music catalogue in July 2019 with First Light. Initial remixes came from Simos Tagias and Espen while Particles now continues the story with a pair of new reworkings from UK and Irish producers. Color Ray's sparkling original is also reprised. Through a visceral palette of sound, Joseph Dodd has quickly made a name for himself with his Stories Of Others production pseudonym. Making his debut on Norman H's Stripped Digital in May 2018, Edo Lake captured the attention with an abrasive, high energy sound before 4+6 showcased a smoother melodic side of the UK artist's production palette in November 2019. Now debuting on Particles, the Stories Of Others remix takes First Light on a stripped back voyage of immaculate sound and innovative production techniques. Using the melodic tropes of the original to inventive effect, a new sonic tapestry is woven through Stories Of Others' additional material and new analogue phrases. Reminiscent of the Border Community sound of Holden and Fake, an intricate collage of glitched beats and melodic loops combine to mesmerising effect in a debut of rare vision and originality. John Kearns is no stranger to the underground dance community with his Lateral Cut Groove moniker. A DJ since the age of 16 with subsequent appearances at Creamfields Ireland and his own successful club night, the Irish producer has gone on to find considerable success in the production arena. A century of production credits thus tells their own story of the Lateral Cut Groove route to success as he found a home on such trusted imprints as Liquid Grooves, Balkan Connection and Polish artist, Tuxedo's Electronic Tree. Moreover, a host of original productions credits have found their way on to Particles including 2012's successful Organised Chaos and March 2015's three-track Spring Tide. Remixes for the likes of Orsen, Ioan Gamboa and Deepfunk have further showcased another side to the Lateral Cut Groove production character as he now returns for the first time in almost two years to remix Color Ray. Building in detailed fashion, a gated arpeggio sequence opens up to mirror the First Light central motif as a backdrop of pounding beat, gently ticking hats and off-beat claps, supply dancefloor energy throughout. A smattering of additional production material from the Lateral Cut Groove arsenal adds depth and originality in an accomplished reinterpretation of the original.
