His 4th solo album drills down (baby) on a dryly parallax worldview, with songs about all those people he loves and all the crazy things they get up to. As ringmaster for a circus show of classic folk and rock tropes, Cory tugs at our heartstrings with expert misdirection, embracing tradition by throwing it out, into the wind. Boomkat Product Review: Wand frontman Cory Hanson ropes in his band to run through a set of well orchestrated '70s country/folk pop rollers that sound a million miles away from 'Vertigo'. You've got to respect the flex here. Even if you've not got a stomach for unshakably American folk rock, it's hard not to appreciate Hanson's attention to detail. Everything's played impeccably, and even the recording nails the sound - his vocals sound so different from how they did on his last album 'Western Cum', never mind Wand's last album. But it's a cunning act of deception; Hanson buries his coolly rebellious songs - this album's not called 'I Love People' for nothing - in aesthetics that middle America might as well ignore, singing about the Ku Klux Klan, Pornhub and, er, Lou Reed as if nobody's listening.
