On Arkham Audio 07, label owner Cri Du Coeur delivers a rolling, broken number with Jeffrey. As sparse as it is effective, the track is driven by saturated kickdrums and white noise percussion, with a vocal sample which placed exquisitely between the kicks, creating a rhythm greater than the sum of their parts. Jeffrey (Techno 909 Edit) straightens out the original with a dose of the 909s for a cleaner but still highly functional dancefloor workout. A trio of remixes come from heavyweights Drumcell, Insolate and Luis Flores. L.A based Drumcell takes an atmospheric route, the reverbs bigger and brighter than the original, with the vocal twisted and pitched down beyond recognition. Croatian Insolate makes things altogether more playful, introducing a bubbling bass line and shuffling hats to the mix, and adding a 16th note arpeggio to place a completely different slant on things with her remix. Berghain regular Luis Flores adds an extended breakdown and some impressive sound design to create a palpable level of tension before reintroducing the pounding kick drums to his twisted rework.
