We each worked on our own musical endeavors and started families. Working on this album together was a way to catch up. And often music can speak on a subliminal level and act as a drawing salve to bring to the surface feelings we are processing emotionally such as grief, joy, nostalgia, frustration and the complex emotions we face everyday. The ones we canÆt quite find the right words for. What is in the feeling of visiting an old neighborhood? Or reconnecting with an old friend? Or seeing your child grow up? Or seeing a loved one grow sick?," says John Luby. Luby continues, "Sonically, we wanted our music to unfold like a sweeping film score, drawing you into a world far beyond the confines of monotony. We wanted each hook to paint vivid scenes, evoke aching nostalgia, while haunting melodies stir a quiet yearning, as if echoing memories you never lived. We wanted choruses to hit like waves of emotion, overwhelming and raw, while moments of stillness feel like time is suspended. The music doesnÆt accompany a story, rather, it is the story. The inspiration for Hollow Sounds was this fleeting feeling of profound experiences involving our partners, spouses, children and other loved ones. From the happy little moments to the deep painful sorrows. Our time with them is the most precious we have and thereÆs beauty in every moment we share with them.
