Melodic black metal, mainly in the fast tempo range, can still set accents today. Whispers of the Undying is the name of the French band's fourth album. The album, which is available on CD from Antiq Records, comprises 8 tracks and lasts around 35 minutes. Personally, I find the artwork a bit too colorful for a BM album, but in the end it's the music that counts. A short, atmospheric intro and the two Frenchmen kick off like a fire engine. Fast, technical guitar sounds and a rousing atmosphere know how to inspire right from the start. Predominantly in the fast tempo range, the Frenchmen show that dynamics and versatility within the songs are very important to them and deliberately intersperse short dragging and slow passages to catch their breath and then return to the fast basic tempo a few moments later. Impressive what the band delivers here. All in all, it is the mixture of raw and unpolished black metal and a bombastic atmosphere that makes Whispers of the Undying a small masterpiece. My highlight of the album is the sixth song Embers of Glory, a very slow epic beginning, the tempo gradually increases and a rousing atmosphere unfolds. My point of criticism, albeit with a twinkle in my eye, is that the playing time of just over 35 minutes is too short for me personally, but that is purely subjective. Conclusion: With their new album Whispers of the Undying, Eminentia Tenebris have released a melodic and atmospheric BM album, which is one of the best releases from France this year.
