Originally launched in May 2016, the Superposition EP from GMJ and Matter was a landmark collaborative pairing that illustrated the duo's impressive production work and redoubtable talent. As Proton Music now revisits the EP, a German techno legend and Australian mainstay now rework Atoms. Oliver Lieb is an artist that needs no introduction to the dance music fraternity. A producer with a wealth of knowledge and even greater talent, Lieb's iconic status has seen the German define the early trance and techno genres with an astounding body of work. An accomplished musician, Lieb's work under the LSG moniker in the late 90s saw him enter the UK singles chart on multiple occasions while remixes for Faithless, Moby and the Human League saw him cement a gold standard reputation. Releases on Hooj Choons, Yoshitoshi and Platipus were hallmarks of continued notoriety in the classic trance scene that lasted over a decade and saw the release of five original albums. In the mid-2000's, Oliver Lieb began to redefine his sound and outlook in an ever-changing music industry as the launch of the Maschine and Solieb imprints saw a vehicle for releasing his own music while his mastering company has seen success cutting vinyl in a reinvigorated market. Parquet, Bedrock and Natura Viva have all played host to the Oliver Lieb sound in recent times and it is with Proton Music that Oliver has released a variety of original material, not least through the Dark Energy and VY Canis Majoris EPs in 2014 and 2015. Furthermore, remixes of Scotty.A and Mondkrater have highlighted his distinctive techno sound. Returning to remix for a third outing, the Oliver Lieb remix of Atoms is a hugely impressive affair. Building through a swathe of reverb laden textures, backed by a thumping beat and cavernous bass line, echoes of GMJ and Matter's original begins to emerge in the first two movements, evolving delicately within Lieb's techno framework. Post-breakdown a dynamic, dancefloor stormer develops via a pulsating bass and intricate percussive groove. Pads and melodic elements from Atoms play a significant part in a remix that oozes quality from every bar. From the Brisbane, Queensland capital, on the West coast, Rich Curtis has shaped Australia's dance culture. An accomplished DJ, successful promoter and sought after producer, Curtis has been responsible for bringing such celebrated names as Hernan Cattaneo and Anthony Pappa to the forefront of Queensland club scene, while his performances alongside the likes of Marc Romboy, Charlie May and Chris Fortier, have highlighted a DJ of consummate skill. Starting on the road to production fame in 2010, Curtis soon found success with a string of impressive original and remix production material. A debut on Cid Inc.'s Replug laid the foundation for a successful career as Tulipa, Indigo and microCastle have all shone a light on the Australian's talent. Furthermore, the Open Other End EP and appearance on the Sudbeats Volume 2 compilation for Hernan Cattaneo's label, have been notable career highlights. A regular on Proton Music since a 2012 Colourblock remix, further success has centred around the Safety Thirst EP in 2013 which went on to see remixes from Dousk amongst others. A clutch of remixes is now followed by an elaborate groove-fuelled reinterpretation of Atoms. A pumping beat and ticking percussive groove is joined by a clever use of original components that create a delicate and evocative journey that swirls across the stereo spectrum in dizzying glory. Additional production and counterpoint melody then evolve in a work that erupts post-breakdown a with a thickly detuned glissando lead that is sure to supply dance floor chaos.
