From the small Central American state of Guatemala, Gabriel Cazali has emerged with considerable production prowess. As he continues to chart a successful path with his distinctive style of music, Particles is proud to announce the release of the lavish, Crossfade EP. An artist with over a decade's experience using digital audio workstations, Cazali's confluence of synthesisers and unique sounds has led to experimentations in sound that have yielded significant results. Influenced by such diverse leading figures as Max Cooper, Caribou and 1970s progressive rock outfit, The Alan Parsons Project, Cazali's own inimitable approach has afforded him considerable commercial success. An impressive 2010 debut remixing Alex Hentze for Roger Shah's Shah-Music Digital, opened the door for a half-century of production credits to hit such high profile labels as No Robot Music, CLUBREC and Disco Rebels. Furthermore, Jaksa Pavicevic's A Must Have imprint has accounted for a wide range of original production material, not least in the Mil Anos Luz and Process EPs in 2011 and 2014. With a single appearance on the Summer Particles 2010 compilation, the track Expansion is now complemented, some five years later, by the musical triptych that is Gabriel Cazali's Crossfade. Opening track, Control Yourself opens with a bright, stepped arpeggio and urgent hi-hat percussion before a growling bass line enters the fray with dominant kick. Glorious melodic riffs flow in perfect unison as pads and bass reach their open filtered zenith before dropping back into a huge dance floor groove. Building once again in analogue intensity, the track rises and falls in epic fashion, demanding listener attention with its dance floor credentials. Hard Times continues Cazali's affinity for club friendly grooves as a sumptuous bass line builds in intensity, supplying a hypnotic backbone that plays across the six-minute piece in infectious fashion. A collage of distorted effects and gated white-noise washes combine in an intelligent breakdown that reprises key elements before the third movement supplies rhythm and melody once more. Problem in Loop charts a somewhat different path from its predecessors. An intricate groove, redolent in clicking percussive samples, creates an angular rhythm as a freeform melodic line sits above in full pitch bending, earworm glory. A strong beat, side-chained to upper frequency components, anchors proceedings in effective manner as Cazali's production skills are brought fully to the fore.
