1way ---- artist : Gabriel Yacoub title : Bel date : 1990 label : KMCD 15. M 312 genre : Folk-Rock rls. date : MARCH/2005 tracks : 11 bitrate : VBRkbps size : 52,7 MB Gabriel Yacoub was born in Paris. His Father is Lebanese and his Mother from the region of Loire. From her he got a taste for the Folkloric french heritage, and specially for the celtic enviroment. During the early 70's he joined the famous Alan Stivell celtic ensemble. Later on he founded the mythic band Malicorne, which became one of the most important folk ensembles of continental Europe. In 1978 he released a solo album titled "Trad. Arr." which shows his habilities to give new textures to the traditional french tunes, but the album which really launched him as a unique and important singer and songwriter was "Elementary level of faith" released in 1986. The critics praised Yacoub's vocal works and arrangements. Yacoub was compared with Peter Gabriel and Robert Wyatt, although his style is really his own. In 1990 Yacoub decided to go back to acoustics with the album Bel, an absolute jewel and masterpiece and according to Jean Paul Grittel "...maybe the most beatiful album ever recorded in France". The emotional intensity of the compositions, the poetic lyrics and the superb singing make Bel an unforgettable listening experience. The use of Strings, bagpipes and Acosutic instruments creates and atmosphere of extreme sensibility, without any over-sweet sentimentalism. Bel shows a singer songwriter at the peak of his creativity.
