In August 1978 he ██ ██ walked into his studio, Kingsway Recorders, to hear ██ ██ keyboard player Colin Towns playing a song he'd written ██ ██ called "Fighting Man", a straightforward rock song. ██ ██ Taking Colin with him, Ian set about putting a new band ██ ██ together which had its name streamlined to "Gillan" and ██ ██ featured classic cohorts John McCoy, Bernie Torme and ██ ██ Mick Underwood. Released in 1979, "Mr Universe" entered ██ ██ the album charts at # 11.
