Formed in South Woodford, London in 1969, the ░▐ ▌░ group originally consisted of twins Colin and Stewart ░▐ ▌░ Goldring, Nigel Pegrum, and Peter Cowling. The band took its ░▐ ▌░ name from a corruption of the twins' surname spelt backwards. ░▐ ▌░ ░▐ ▌░ After signing with RCA, they recorded their debut album, In ░▐ ▌░ Spite of Harry's Toe-Nail, in 1972. With the band seeking to ░▐ ▌░ create a bigger sound and reduce the need for ░▐ ▌░ double-tracking, saxophonist John Earle was subsequently ░▐ ▌░ recruited. A second album, Lady Lake, was released later in ░▐ ▌░ 1972. ░▐ ▌░ ░▐ ▌░ Long-running personality clashes within the band came to a ░▐ ▌░ dramatic head soon afterwards, with Stewart Goldring and ░▐ ▌░ Nigel Pegrum ousted by the group's management (reportedly at ░▐ ▌░ the behest of Peter Cowling). They were replaced by John ░▐ ▌░ Knightsbridge and John Bedson, who had both appeared as guest ░▐ ▌░ vocalists on 'Social Embarrassment', the final track on Lady ░▐ ▌░ Lake. Understandably, Colin Goldring was upset by this ░▐ ▌░ decision and refused to write new material for the group. ░▐ ▌░ Consequently, Gnidrolog fracturedùseemingly foreverùa few ░▐ ▌░ months later. ░▐ ▌░ ░▐ ▌░ After a twenty-seven-year hiatus, the Goldring brothers, ░▐ ▌░ buoyed by the high regard in which Gnidrolog was held by fans ░▐ ▌░ on the Internet, decided to re-form the band. Having enlisted ░▐ ▌░ co-founder Nigel Pegrum along with several new members (Rick ░▐ ▌░ Kemp, Chris Lloyds, and Nessa Glen), the group released ░▐ ▌░ Gnosis: Prospice Respice in 1999.
