In other words, they have their psychotronic garage rock credentials down pat. The big question, of course, is whether or not they deliver the goods. The answer is mostly yes. Amy Surdu's distorted punk growl is a good fit for the band's raunchy, fuzztone-driven sound; Deanne Iovan provides variety with her sweeter-sounding lead vocals on "Lovin' Machine" and "Room in Your Heart" and vocal harmonies temper the rough edges of some songs. There's no doubt that the Gore Girl Girls have the requisite energy and enthusiasm; they also display a reasonably wide range of influences that encompasses Motown and '60s girl groups as well as early Kinks and Detroit's proto-punk bands. The group specializes in primitive rockers, such as "Hunt You Down," "Go On," "Cattle Call," "Gore's Got It," and "Hard Enough," but some of the album's better cuts emphasize hooks over raw power, such as a rendition of "Love Machine" that would be a hit in an ideal garage rock world and a version of "I'm Gonna Get You Out" that falls somewhere between the Dixie Cups and the Gore Gore Girls' typical approach. The girl group influence is also evident on "Room in Your Heart" (complete with a "shooby doo" from the band), while Surdu puts a little country twang into her singing on "Country Man."
