An artist of innumerable talents, Diego Carren has found himself at the centre of Mexico's underground dance scene for a number of years. A regular across the clubs of his homeland playing alongside the likes of Guy J, Nick Warren and Henry Saiz, his legendary HOOKAH events have brought the best international DJ talent to central American shores, whilst his record label of the same name has continued to represent renowned producers and nubreed talent in equal measures. Now returning to the label after a September 2019 remix of Rudy's Real You, Hot TuneiK follows in the footsteps of Erdi Irmak and Rick Pier O'Neil by revealing his Heightened Senses, Vol. 1 Opener, Equilibrium is chock full of complex and intricately programmed percussive elements that ripple across proceedings alongside hypnotically repeated motifs shimmering in delay treated effects. Simultaneously, a meandering pad with subtle vocal character adds texture and depth to a track soaked in middle eastern flavour. Featuring the vocal talents of Amega, Healing has a more ethnic oriented flavour with its complex top line and ethereal vocal phrases that reveal themselves in repeated phrases and gated patterns. Subtle melodic variations make their presence felt throughout in a track that demonstrates the range of Hot Tuneik's considerable talent. Awake is a dark progressive gem that revels in rolling grooved bassline and laidback percussive groove. Sung with coruscating beauty the track's title filters into listener consciousness with languid ease as layered vocal lines add depth and intrigue. Life completes the EP with stratified layers of vocal elegance and poise from Sarah Chilanti alongside a raft of motifs and syncopated melodic elements.
