The singer and his new bandmates û guitarist Colton Lauro and bassist Mike Noble û have taken the sound out of the garage and into a considerably lusher musical landscape, as heard on Hotel MiraÆs self-titled debut EP. Working with producer Dave Schiffman (Vampire Weekend, HAIM), Kerr directed his creative energy at writing sharper hooks and more memorable melodies. The results û as heard on charged-up numbers like ôGinger Aleö and ôBabyö û are songs that boast anthemic, soaring choruses while sacrificing none of their sheer rock ÆnÆ roll energy. The sound showcased on the Hotel Mira EP may be more dressed-up and polished, but itÆs still rough around the edges in all the best ways. The EP works as a cross section of the early aughts rock revival, but through the milieu of our modern technology driven times. The band sports a softer sound than post-punk, but have a knack for the rock n roll heroics that directly followed that era. But this isnÆt band caught of up in revisionist complacency, as each track bursts forward with true passion and clear-eye articulation. Subtlety doesnÆt arrive from the pop hooks, which rattle around your brain immediately after listening, but come from the underlying and wide ranging lyrical messages throughout the album. That depth is what sets the debut apart from their peers, and thatÆs also what has us excited for Hotel MiraÆs present and future.
