RELEASE NOTES ..:: ] ............................ Dynamic duo, Paul Deetman and Jelle Jansen are one of 2014's greatest finds. Through their Huminal production assignation, the Dutch pair has risen effortlessly to the upper echelons of the underground dance scene with a cutting edge sound that is as graceful as it is masterful, now visualised through their Pocket Universe. Clearly influence by the melodic techno sounds of Stephan Bodzin, Marc Romboy and Trenmoller, Huminal have been able to transcend the boundaries laid by such industry legends and extend their sound into a unique and colourful new milieu. Destined for greatness from an early age, the two school friends quickly gained recognition with their DJ prowess, first by winning contests on Dutch national radio, followed by invitations to perform at techno festivals in the Amsterdam capital. Championed by the late Dutch legend, Roy Avni, Huminal were mentored through the pitfalls of the electronic dance scene and afforded the opportunity to hold a residency at Avni's Electronation before going on to perform at Paradiso, Sugar Factory and Club AIR. As their production work began to gain momentum, Huminal's credibility would be raised further still through victory at 2011's iconic Amsterdam Dance Event and the Demolition contest with their track, Greeksomnia. From a judging panel comprising Paul Hamill, Renaat Vendepapeliere and Marc Romboy, the duo triumphed in emphatic fashion. Greeksomnia saw a subsequent release alongside a trio of other works on the impressive FutureForm imprint before a clutch of releases hit Particles in the second half of 2014. August's Acrophobia EP provided a moment of consummate skill in three high-calibre works before a remix of Lank's Parameters illustrated the Paul and Jelle's remix talents. Now returning to Particles after a recent remix for Mango Alley, Huminal take their twin-track Pocket Universe to an expectant audience. Opening track, Horizontal Memories, skips along with an elegant, bouncing groove full of percussive subtlety and melodic complexity to create a work of unadulterated bliss. Evolving gradually, beats strengthen and release filters open to provide subconscious rise and fall. Further melodic layers then add to an already impressive piece. The title track itself is a darker affair. A razor-edged bass line filters and modulates its way across a seven-minute work that pulsates in fizzing energy creating an urgency that must be heard to be believed. Building in intensity in the second half, a huge combination of beats, bass and soft arpeggio pulse and throb in glorious unity.
