The last three years ▒█░ ░█▒ haven't been exactly euphoric in my life or in the world in ▒█░ ░█▒ general, and the anxiety of the times has affected the lyrics and ▒█░ ░█▒ overall mood of the tracks. There's no science fiction or ▒█░ ░█▒ surrealism this time, the themes on this album are very much of ▒█░ ░█▒ this world, this reality. That is one of the reasons why I ▒█░ ░█▒ decided to call it "The Grey Area". ▒█░ ░█▒ ▒█░ ░█▒ I see myself more of a singer-songwriter than an electronic music ▒█░ ░█▒ maker (to call myself a musician seems far-fetched since I'm not ▒█░ ░█▒ a virtuoso), and more than ever I concentrated on making ▒█░ ░█▒ carefully crafted songs with well thought-out lyrics. Despite the ▒█░ ░█▒ difficult topics on some of the songs I definitely wanted to ▒█░ ░█▒ avoid the "Fuck you fucking cunts" -type of argumentation, ▒█░ ░█▒ because there's enough moronic shouting on the Internet already. ▒█░ ░█▒ ▒█░ ░█▒ "The Grey Area" is an appropriate name also because musically ▒█░ ░█▒ it's kind of an oddball among the electronic releases. Trends or ▒█░ ░█▒ genre boundaries have nothing to do with the musical output, and ▒█░ ░█▒ to file it simply under "synthpop" may be a bit misleading. There ▒█░ ░█▒ are the melancholic synthpop tunes (Just by Wishing, Beneath the ▒█░ ░█▒ Empty Skies, Ghosts on Photos), but also the new wave-ish, ▒█░ ░█▒ harsher tracks (Contradictator, Trying Times) as well as the ▒█░ ░█▒ atmospheric "Double Life" and the heavy, lyric-driven songs ▒█░ ░█▒ (Thoughts Like Insects, Every Time Humankind).
