The cover is a fiery depiction of the crucifixion of Jesus and a demonic rape/orgy. Inside the booklet are more religious pictures, which pertain to the lyrical content. Take the song "Father, You're Not A Father" (one of my favorites!) for instance, which shows a priest from the neck down to his belt with a bible in hand, the lyrics represent the molestation of a young boy by a priest. The production itself is very noteworthy as well. In closely observing the sound quality of my many albums, I've noticed Immolation has a superb sound, both live and recorded, yet this album finally catches the true essence of this. Beyond a doubt one of the best-produced albums without taking it over the top of what they can do live, therefore never letting you down. My only discord for the sound is to bring the bass level a little higher- there is so much being done that is going to an ear's waste, which is extremely unfortunate. If you are familiar with Immolation's musical abilities then you know they carry a sound of intense rage, which most bands have lost over the years. Their latest effort "Close To A World Below", which happens to be their fourth release, is a testament to that. The heavy blast-beats, thrashing solos and the assault of death metal vocals make Immolation's sound not only complete but also superior to most in their genre. The musicianship (like other Immolation disks) is excellent. Never lacking in certain areas yet once again I must mention the bassist Ross Dolan (who is also the lead singer) is doing a whole hell of a lot, which in fact we are missing with the naked ear. Lyrically the album is above average with anti-god writings, which in my eyes are always a plus! I give credit to those who speak their minds, and also for doing it well and without complete ignorance on the topic- bravo! Vocally Ross Dolan keeps the Death Metal atmosphere raging with growls upon growls upon growls. The drummer Alex Hernandez, who is the newest member of the band, has a phenomenal way of keeping tempo while maintaining a talented, thick and powerful beat. The guitars, well what can I say? They make Immolation whole; I think both Robert Vigna and Thomas Wilkinson work so amazingly well off one another it's as though it is meant to be. The chemistry between both guitarists is awe-inspiring to say the least; you can see this in any recording or performance. One thing that made me become an instant fan of Immolation what the fact they always had a heavy Death Metal sound but never lapped their sound over and over, which, over the past few years, has become more and more common among Death Metal artists. Immolation also has a groove (for lack of better words) that is very faint in metal.
