Great songs album after ║ │ │║ album never becomes tiring, but these ║ │ │║ subtley-used effects still make everything sound ║ │ │║ newish. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ This is another fine assortment of songs. The ║ │ │║ synths in Caught Somewhere In Time kick-start ║ │ │║ the album before another frenzied Maiden gallop ║ │ │║ ensues. Wasted Years is the catchy party tune of ║ │ │║ the day, the bridge of Sea Of Madness is ║ │ │║ Maiden's mellowest moment since Strange World ║ │ │║ (don't you just love the "ooooooh oooooh ohhh!" ║ │ │║ ?!), and Heaven Can Wait is another jump up and ║ │ │║ down singalong anthem. These songs make the ║ │ │║ A-side certainly the most accessible part of the ║ │ │║ album, the material on the B-side certainly ║ │ │║ requires a lot more patience for some people. ║ │ │║ The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner ║ │ │║ sounds like a potential disaster on paper. It's ║ │ │║ about long distance running, fer chrissakes, and ║ │ │║ the vocals and some of the riffing aren't that ║ │ │║ smooth. But it grows more with each listen, as ║ │ │║ the song slogs away and captures the mood of the ║ │ │║ subject matter. The solo after "I've got to keep ║ │ │║ running the course..." as majestic as well, ║ │ │║ sounding so much like the second solo of Caught ║ │ │║ Somewhere In Time but still working brilliantly. ║ │ │║ Stranger In A Strange Land combines the ║ │ │║ catchiness of Wasted Years with the jumpiness of ║ │ │║ Heaven Can Wait, and has what is probably one of ║ │ │║ Adrian's Smith's best solos - slow and ║ │ │║ thoughtful building up into a melodic shredfest. ║ │ │║ Deja Vu is a quick burst of speed and probably ║ │ │║ the weakest song on the album before Alexander ║ │ │║ The Great begins. Another song that grows on you ║ │ │║ more with each listen, it has great effects, ║ │ │║ funny lyrics, and a brilliant solo section. No ║ │ │║ wonder so many people are clamouring to hear it ║ │ │║ live! ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ With a definite array of strong material, you ║ │ │║ have to ask yourself why this album seems to ║ │ │║ receive so little recognition. Sea Of Madness, ║ │ │║ Alexander The great and The Loneliness Of The ║ │ │║ Long Distance Runner are contenders for "most ║ │ │║ underrated Maiden song" in my book, and when was ║ │ │║ the last time we heard Heaven Can Wait live?
