Balvin had released eight singles. That's right: eight. This gives an idea of the commercial power of the reggaeton star, of course, but also of his ability to deliver massive hits with dismaying ease. Besides the singles which were published beforehand, mostly collected together at the very end of this album, there are many other things to love about JOSE. Although he has not revolutionised his genre, the Colombian is hardly resting on his laurels. He can vary rhythmic patterns to fit changing moods, as on Vestido; he can embrace soft Afro sounds on Que Locura; or slow down the rhythm and add deep layers as on Fantasias; or drastically modify the standard drum sounds on Ganas de Verte. This album is about more than just sensual sounds and dancing: it is sentimental, too. Take, for example, Una Nota, featuring Sech, and on which the artist explores his excesses and his doubts. Although he takes in American inspirations with Billetes de 100, and elsewhere, what really sets the tone for J. Balvin's seventh solo album is the world music sound.
