In the bright sunlight of mid summer, James Monro lit up 2015 with second original EP for Proton Music as Nectar illustrated exactly why he is such a highly valued artist. Receiving a first remix EP on Particles, both tracks are now revisited in impressive fashion. From Mazyr on the Pripyat River, Mikhail Akulich has found himself with a rapidly growing reputation for consistently high-quality productions through his Michael A moniker. An artist with progressive house and techno leanings, a minimalist slant also plays a part in the Michael's production arsenal. A regular on the Balkan Connection imprint with a host of production credits, 3rd Avenue and Genesis Music have been regular carriers of the Belarusian's music as the latter continues to grow under the auspices of Michael himself. Particles has also played a significant role in Michael A's developing career. A first appearance on the Fall Particles 2013 compilation led to two further cuts on the Winter 2014 edition before the three-track, Behind the Moon EP provided a centrepiece for Michael's achievements on the label. Now returning to Particles after a successful remix of Derek Howell with Egyptian artist, Mou., the Michael A remix of Serum takes the chunky, bass-fuelled rhythms of the original and transforms them into a smooth, beat heavy backdrop with subtle percussive undertones carrying melodic energy. Echoes of Monro's track can be heard throughout in a work of ingenuity as vocal cuts and rich soundscapes forge a new, deeper path. German based Konstantin Alt has hit numerous headlines with his LoQuai production moniker. As prolific as he is talented, LoQuai has captured the imagination of a band of growing followers with a production style that earned many plaudits and support from such quarters as Hernan Cattaneo, Matt Darey and Khen. A debut release on Ultimate House Records has led to a tidal wave of releases on a host of established imprints including Jetlag Digital, Bonzai Progressive and almost a century-and-a-half of production credits for favourite, Mistique Music. The Unison show on Frisky Radio continues to serve as a vehicle for a sound that drives his passions, while Particles also begins to paint a picture of LoQuai's artistry with each new brush stroke. Original work, The Native Language formed part of this picture, as have reworks for Big Al and Navid Mehr. Now returning to complete a sextet of remixes, the LoQuai rerub of Nectar is a deliciously vibrant offering that captures the very essence of Monro's work, turning it into a deeper, darker affair that pulsates with hypnotic depth through richly textured pads. The foundations of the original are keenly felt as LoQuai's additional production creates a truly impressive work that envisions seething dance floor masses in slow motion monochrome.
