FORREST is best-known for recording "Night Train", a song that he 'borrowed' from the last part of Duke Ellington's "Happy Go Lucky Local". While in high school in St. Louis, Forrest worked with pianist Eddie Johnson, the legendary Fate Marable, and the Jeter-Pillars Orchestra. A monumental innovator, icon, and maverick, trumpeter MILES DAVIS helped define the course of jazz as well as popular culture in the 20th century, bridging the gap between bebop, modal music, funk, and fusion. Throughout most of his 50-year career, Davis played the trumpet in a lyrical, introspective style, often employing a stemless Harmon mute to make his sound more personal and intimate. In 1952 during his 'off period', Davis sat in with tenor-saxophonist Forrest's quintet at a club in his hometown of St. Louis. The recording quality is not the best, but collectors will want to get this somewhat rare recording still, for its excellent live bop standards.
