John Askew - Ministry Of Sound Session 19-06-02
John's studio work has recently stepped up a gear with
his recent trance anthems "Vellum" and "Are you Reading
me?". They have seen support from many international djs
including Ferry Corsten and Paul van Dyk who hammered
them at both Gatecrasher and his own Vandit night in
Berlin, as well as on his legendary radio show on
Berlin's Fritz FM. "Vellum" has now been licensed by
John "00" Fleming for the next EUPHORIA mix album and by
Scott Bond for Gatecrasher's next album. Scott has also
licensed John's "Are you Reading me?" for inclusion on
the same compilation. Other tracks have also been
requested for consideration for future God's Kitchen
compilations and material has also recently been
requested by Guy Ornadel for consideration for the Hope
Recordings mix album he is about to compile. With
several other studio projects on the go including a some
exciting remix work and a diary full of quality
international dj dates...the future's bright...the
future's red.
HISTORY
John started his dj career with a residency for the free
party sound system Code Red. As Code Red's reputation
grew so did the pressure from the authorities. At the
end of 1995 it was decided to move the parties from the
fields to the clubs. With this move John started warming
up for top international names such as Billy Nasty, Mark
NRG and Gayle San. He quickly established a name for
himself and was subsequently booked to play a number of
other high profile nights including Universe's legendary
Final Frontier and a variety of free party systems
across the south.
Over the next five years John found himself traveling to
Slovakia, Denmark, Sweden, France, Belfast and Amsterdam
to deliver his now trademark sound. His debut appearance
at The Extreme Club in Bratislava led to an invitation
to do a live 3-hour set on the national radio station
FunFM.s
In 1998 John took up new residencies for Deep Blue and
The UFO Club where he found himself sharing the bill
with the likes of Carl Cox, Dave Angel, Dave Clarke,
Billy Nasty, Eat Static and CJ Bolland.
In 1999 he teamed up with Bristol's most respected
techno dj, Simmer to form Shimmy recordings. With highly
acclaimed reviews from the national dance press John
began to gain a reputation for his unique writing and
production skills.
A new millennium and another residency for John - for
Universe, of Tribal Gathering fame. With this John found
himself resident dj for a national tour put together to
promote the release of the club orientated film
"Sorted". The tour covered 21 venues in one month and
featured many of the world's finest djs including Carl
Cox, Timo Maas, Danny Rampling, Danny Howells, Way Out
West and John "00" Fleming.
Today, John continues his residencies for Code Red,
Universe and The UFO Club as well as for the Ministry of
Sound's Euphoria nights where he can often be found
drilling the crowds with his hard but euphoric sets
along side the likes of Mauro Picotto, Armin van Buuren,
Ferry Corsten and Scot Project. He has also taken on the
position of techno reviewer for Ministry Magazine and
hosts his own "Tranced Out" live radio show on Ministry
of Sound Radio. He is also a resident dj (along with
Ferry Corsten and Mauro Picotto) on the internationally
acclaimed Rotation Show which is broadcast on a number
of high profile radio stations across the world every
weekend. John also recently rocked the main stage at the
biggest indoor dance event ever - Ministry of Sound's
legendary NYE party at the Dome.
