CD jacket mutterings...
01 - Thank You (Previously Unreleased - 1991) - With it's grinding frequencies and
relentless qualities an opening track much along the lines of naive's intro welcome, it
was never released on the final version of money. Never forget, KMFDM are germans with a
sense of humour...
02 - Godlike (From Naive, out of print - 1990) - This is the first recorded version of
Godlike, produced by Paul Barker and Lee Popa, featuring William Tucker and Mark Durante
on guitars and Bill Rieflin on drums. It was recorded right at the end of KMFDM's tour
with Ministry at Chicago's Trax sudio in March of '90, the day of En Esch's release from
the hospital after barely surviving a leap from the third story of a burning building.
This version was released only on the meanwhile discontinued original version of Naive
with the orange cover.
03 - Virus-Dub (From Naive, out of print - 1990) - KMFDM's remix of the original Virus,
dancehall style, this is one of three versions of this song, the two others are A) the
original version of the Virus-EP and B) Naive-Hell To Go's '93 Virus-Pestilence mix with
much heavier guitar riffing and reworked rhythm section. Like the previous track Godlike,
this version was only available on the original version of Naive.
04 - Rip The System (From More & Faster 12" single/out of print - 1989) - Adrian Sherwood
mixed this track at M.O.B. studio in Hamburg, German in early '89.It was the second time
that KMFDM worked together with him. The year before they had mixed part of the Don't
Blow Your Top album together at London's southern studios. Rip the System was released in
two verions: A dub-mix on the album UAIOE, somewhat reminiscent of the Virus-dub, and
this version on the More & Faster 12" single, which Wax Trax! discontinued in '92 due to
their financial problems at the time. Since the original master taper for this and the
following track, Naff Off, were nowhere to be found, the master for this release was
actually derivied from vinyl.
05 - Naff Off (From More & Faster 12" single/out of print - 1988) - The guy laughing in
the intro of this early techno-house-hybrid is Rudolf Naomi, KMFDM's drummer at the time.
Many of you remember him from his juicy live performances during the KMFDM/Ministry tour
in 1989-90 and his cascading sheets of insane humour. The Brit (obviously) shouting all
thru this track is KMFDM's then sound engineer Nick Head. Naff lyrics indeed!
06 - Mysterious Ways (From Shut up Kitty compilation - 1993) - When Chase from Cargo
Records asked KMFDM to contribute a cover version to his Shut Up Kitty compilation, the
band promptly recored this hilarious track, even though that day En Esch suffered from a
terrible case of influenza. Can you hear it? This tracks guest features includes Lee
Popa in the intro, Charles Levi on bass, backing vocalist Evie and Mark Durante on
guitars. Remarkable is that G. Schulz wasn't around for the session...
07 - Ooh La La (From Hellraiser III soundtrack - 1992) - Another Lee Popa production. This
puppy was whacked together in a day to meet the deadline for the Hellrasier III
soundtrack. What the hell is En Esch saying?
08 - Hole In The Wall (Previously unreleased - 1993) - Scott Burns was commissioned by Wax
Trax!/TVT to do two remixes for KMFDM's Glory single: The tracks move on and Hole in the
Wall. Sascha absolutely hated the fact that Burns had hired "real" musicians for the
additional parts which in his opinion gave the track a cheesy heavy-metal feel. Four
years later he admittedly admires the track for what it is...
09 - Agogo (Previously unreleased - 1993) - This track was part of the bulk of material
KMFDM had prepared for the 'Angst' studio sessions. They never wrote lyrics for it and
abandoned it early on in the making of the record, just after this rough mix. It is
remarkable for its weird and funky angles as well as its jazzy tones, an aspect that KMFDM
rarely plays out to the full extent anymore, maybe for the obvious reasons... After all,
in the mid 80's Sascah and En Esch occasionally gigged with the German P-Funk ensemble
Krkrzz, whose mastermind Tom Oz is appearing on the following track.
10 - Zip (Previously unreleased - 1985) - It would be more correct to say that this track
was never released in the United States. It was actually part of the initial version of
KMFDM's What Do You Know Deutschland? which came out in late '86 on their own label.
Later, in 1990, Wax Trax! released a record by the same name in the U.S. which actually
lumped together parts of What Do You Know... but also incorporated the entire Kicken' Ass.
KMFDM's first single, released in Europe only in 1987. Due to timing problems, Zip was
omitted on this domestic version and therefore now for the first time, after 13 years of
silent existance, sees its glorious released in the land of the prudent! A minimalist
effort, whose Dada-ist content is hard to appreciate in the overdriven late '90's. It was
a dead-on in it's own right at the time...
