Returning to Proton Music after a successful 2019, Kamilo Sanclemente and Dabeat present a bright new vision with Beyond the Future, Vol. 1. From Cali, south-west of the Bogota capital, Kamilo Sanclemente and Dabeat have been pivotal in advancing their country's underground dance movement. Rising out of the Cauca Valley, the duo has been responsible for a swathe of high-profile music. Both successful artists in the own rights, Sanclemente has amassed over 450 production credits since a debut for Suite 7 Records in 2013, going on to feature on some of the most prestigious independent imprints including Massive Harmony Records, Univack and Nick Warren's Balance Presents the Soundgarden in late 2018. A relative newcomer to the underground scene, Dabeat's solo work has seen him feature for BeatFreak Recordings, Pollen Flug Records and Freegrant Music. Joining forces, the collaborative pairing has consistently hit the headlines with their distinctive brand of progressive house, lighting up the likes of Mango Alley, Hope and UV. January 2019 saw a Proton Music debut in the shape of the outstanding Spiral Patterns, further enhanced by a remix from Brazilian maestro, Andre Sobota. A remix for Peter Makto and Gregory S's Purple Rain was another notable highlight in May as Kamilo Sanclemente and Dabeat return with the first in a series of EPs that follow in the footsteps laid by Erdi Irmak and Rick Pier O'Neil, as they start out Beyond the Future. Opener, Zemula, is full of rhythmic prowess as a strong percussive groove lays the perfect foundation for rippling arpeggios and siren synth lead to course through the 8-min offering. Ambient effects and sweeping risers add additional texture to a wonderful club floor-filler. The complementary tracks of Feline and Ausar delight with their languorous rhythmic patterns as grooved plucks and clever bassline sequences add rich syncopation. Unhurried lead lines ripple across proceedings to create flowing melodic patterns while atmospheric vocal phrases add depth. The driving kick and off-beat percussion of Asgard provides immediate dancefloor character, tempered by stratified layers of arpeggiated sequences and rising pad progressions that reach a crescendo in a tension-fuelled breakdown. Rhythm and melody then combine once more in the third movement to maximum effect. With its seething atmosphere, Aerology, is a mesmerising collage of grooved bassline and melodic motif that provide a superb counterweight to intelligently programmed percussion. Adding to the aural melange a relentless sequence builds post-breakdown to strong effect before Magma spews forth with bristling power and dancefloor heat. Flowing hypnotically through arpeggiated phrase, a counterpoint chord progression provides weight before a grooved melodic line opens up in the second half, creating a dynamic and powerful climax.
