I didn't like much ║ │ │║ that record, and I don't like this come-back ║ │ │║ album either. In fact, it pales in comparison to ║ │ │║ the first two releases of the band, and ║ │ │║ decreases even more the quotations of the band, ║ │ │║ which were already to the ground after "III". ║ │ │║ In regard to the original line-up, we still have ║ │ │║ Carmine Appice on drums and Mick Sweda on lead ║ │ │║ guitars, joined for this time by Kelly Keeling ║ │ │║ (vocals, bass, keys), and Steve Fister ║ │ │║ (guitars). ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ The first three songs of the lot are a letdown, ║ │ │║ opening the album in a really bad way, and ║ │ │║ causing me to freak out with the idea of another ║ │ │║ messed up work. I mean, all of the tracks from 1 ║ │ │║ to 3 are flat and unfocused, the songwriting ║ │ │║ being totally fucked in the head. Actually, I ║ │ │║ think we cannot even talk about songwriting ║ │ │║ here, it all seems a jam session in which the ║ │ │║ ideas are diluted and restrained among a lot of ║ │ │║ uninteresting rhythmic patterns. All in all, ║ │ │║ they're almost worth skipping even on first ║ │ │║ listen. By the way, I don't wanna go wild bunch ║ │ │║ on these guys, 'cos to be fair the disc gets ║ │ │║ (hardly) better. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ With the title-track, finally the proper sound ║ │ │║ of the band begins to flow underwater, so we ║ │ │║ have an average song featuring hints to some ║ │ │║ sort of Southern Rock in the guitar lines and a ║ │ │║ good guitar solo in the middle part, though the ║ │ │║ whole track is a bit too long and the ║ │ │║ aforementioned jam session feeling is still ║ │ │║ evident at its ending. Also notable are "The ║ │ │║ Edge", with its groovy bass start up and ║ │ │║ spiriting guitar riffs (but the vocals are so ║ │ │║ boring they spoil a lot of the fun the song ║ │ │║ could unleash), "Angels" which shows efficient ║ │ │║ songwriting (thank goodness) and some good ║ │ │║ guitar-hooklines in the end. I also think the ║ │ │║ closer track "Ready To Strike" can be pointed ║ │ │║ out as the highlight of the whole album. ║ │ │║ Ironically, this song is the re-recording of the ║ │ │║ title track of the first KING KOBRA-album, ║ │ │║ originally released in 1985, so no wonder it's ║ │ │║ so superior to the other stuff here. Plus, with ║ │ │║ it we can at last find a good vocal performance, ║ │ │║ though the quality level previously set by Mark ║ │ │║ Free stays unmatched. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Haplessly, the remaining stuff is negligible all ║ │ │║ along. It's just a group of contenders for the ║ │ │║ prize of worst song of the record, challenging ║ │ │║ each other with silly choruses ("Bitch", ║ │ │║ "Freedom", "Watch What You Think"), useless ║ │ │║ poppy love tunes ("Jessy") and just plain ║ │ │║ misfires ("Blaze"). ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Musicianship-wise, as you can easily guess this ║ │ │║ album is flawless, with such a line-up you can't ║ │ │║ really go wrong in this department, but the ║ │ │║ singer is a complete disappointment. I don't ║ │ │║ know this guy, all I know is I can't stand his ║ │ │║ (attempt to) singin'. In my opinion, choosing ║ │ │║ this vocalist for a band that in the past used ║ │ │║ to show off such singers as Mark Free and Johnny ║ │ │║ Edwards is a musical suicide indeed. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ In the end, we have two bonus-tracks to stroke ║ │ │║ our ears with. Still not so much representative ║ │ │║ of the band neither essential in their ║ │ │║ discography, they're both way better than the ║ │ │║ new material represented here, and fully succeed ║ │ │║ into seizing the energetic vibe of KING KOBRA's ║ │ │║ early days. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Moreover, the attendance of Mark Free holding ║ │ │║ the mic unmercifully shows the large gap between ║ │ │║ him and Kelly. But they're just two old songs ║ │ │║ for the nostalgics of the hard pomp/AOR golden ║ │ │║ age (i.e. the '80s), ya know, so judgin'em is ║ │ │║ senseless and dumb. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ It's sad to say, but to sum it up we get a few ║ │ │║ good songs and really a lot of fillers, and ║ │ │║ considering the high quality of the latest ║ │ │║ releases of the subgenre (HURRICANE, JORN, JK ║ │ │║ NORTHRUP, GIANT, PINK CREAM 69), this album is ║ │ │║ nothing but a broken down loser. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ 2001 album for heavy metal act featuring Carmine ║ │ │║ Appice (Blue Murder/Rod Stewart/Ozzy Osbourne), ║ │ │║ Kelly Keeling (Baton Rouge/Blue Murder/ Michael ║ │ │║ Schenker), Steve Fister(Lita Ford) & Mick Sweda ║ │ │║ (Bulletboys). ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │╔═════════════════════╗ │ │║ Release Tracklist ║ │ │╚═════════════════════╩══════════════════════════════════════════ │ │ │ │ 01 - Do It [05:21] │ │ 02 - Bitch [03:40] │ │ 03 - The Gift [03:41] │ │ 04 - Hollywood Trash [05:45] │ │ 05 - Jessy [03:44] │ │ 06 - The Edge [03:19] │ │ 07 - Watch What You Think [04:21] │ │ 08 - Angels [04:34] │ │ 09 - Blaze [04:20] │ │ 10 - Freedom [05:09] │ │ 11 - Ready To Strike [03:59] │ │ 12 - Take It Off [04:46] │ │ 13 - Here Comes The Night [03:37] │ │ │ │ Total Length : [56:16 minn │ │ │ │ │ │ ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ ╔═════════════════════╗ │ │ ║ Greetings To: ║ │ │ ╚═════════════════════╝ │ │ │ │ Too all people who contributes to make this │ │ archive of good music in a exceptional conditions │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │■ ■│ └───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
