With a 24 carat reputation within the underground dance industry, Filip Kaczmarek's jewel-encrusted career shows no sign of abating as his Kobana production soubriquet continues to make its presence felt. A true friend of the Proton Music imprint, we are delighted to announce another original 3-track offering in the shape of the stunning, Boyhood EP. An artist whose constantly evolving sound continues to make waves within the underground community, the Kobana sound is a rare example that sees his music retain a distinct and unique character, instantly recognisable through his melodic majesty and percussive flair. Able to combine the two elements with consummate ease and unmistakable signature audio, the trademark Kobana production sound has evolved over a painstaking process of self-taught techniques and reverse-engineering, which has, in turn, led to a number of high-calibre sample packs that give a unique insight into the mind of a production icon. A regular on some of the finest imprints within the industry, a catalogue of original and remix work has found its way onto the likes of Spring Tube, Lowbit and Anjunadeep. Indeed, All Those Loose Things and Whoosh with co-producer, Yane3dots, for the latter in 2011 and 2012, ably illustrate the depth and pedigree of Kobana's music over a sustained period. Seventy production credits for the Particles and Proton Music imprints only serve to highlight the importance we place in Kaczmarek's music since 2010 debuts with Mario Hatchet provided a glimpse into a bright new future. Thus, it is with 2014's debut full-length debut album that Kobana made an indelible stamp in the world of underground house with The Riddle. The thirteen-track offering showcased Kobana's no inconsiderable talent across a variety of styles and genres going on to see a raft of remixes from the likes of Marc Poppcke and Derek Howell. Subtly shifting direction to the deep and tech house arenas via his, Freefall EP in August 2015, Kobana now continues this rich vein of form in the summer of 2016 with Boyhood, lighting up the aural synapses in vivid technicolour. Opening track Anna is wonderfully emotive offering that delights through open filtered melodies that flow intriguingly in hypnotic fashion, entwined with a deep kick, rich percussive fluidity and subtle vocal touches. The resultant work is a joy to behold. LoHi revels in intricate percussive groove as a 909-style clap makes its presence felt cutting through the mid-frequencies with ease. A deliciously evolving melodic sequence finds itself allied to a locked groove in typical Kobana fashion as an unexpected key change in the third movement keeps suspense high. Final track, Together, is a slice of pure house joy. Summery piano chords make for a sprightly opening as a complex bass line and carefully placed vocal phrases put the listener in mind of Discloure and the modern UK house scene. A supremely confident work, Together is certain to find favour with the dance floors of Europe and beyond. A new 3-track offering sees the Kobana sound reaching full maturity through his Boyhood EP.
