There are few artists who can claim to have such celebrated status among the roster of talent that makes up the Particles and Proton Music imprints, but Filip Kaczmarek is one such artist. Under his Kobana production pseudonym, countless tracks have inspired and surprised as we now reaching an exciting new chapter with the Freefall EP. A unique talent, Polish born Kobana has continued to wow a growing fan-base with a studied approach to his craft that began at the turn of the millennium. Learning multiple 'in the box' production techniques through countless hours of self-taught lessons, the ability to reverse engineer his favourite artists gave Kobana the inspiration and understanding to not only emulate but also go beyond the work of his musical heroes. The result has provided Kobana with a trademark sound that transcends the prescriptive, binary principles of the computer realm into a world of evocative melodies and spine tingling percussive arrangements and seeing his work united with a host of high profile imprints, including Anjunadeep, Spring Tube and Ricky Ryan's Sick Watona. A clutch of original EPs and remixes have found their way on to the Particles imprint both in solo and collaborative guises with Mario Hatchet and Yane3dots, including remixes from the likes of Japanese legend Shingo Nakamura and Proton founder, Biologik. Simultaneously, work has appeared on Proton Music including his iconic Darkside remixes of Poison Pro and Miusha's Alien and Paul Hazendonk's The Long Journey. However, it is perhaps 2014's debut full-length album that best showcases Kobana's talents in all their glory as myriad textures, rhythms and soundscapes were represented through the progressive, deep and tech house genres in captivating fashion. Now returning with his first new material for the label in little over a year, Kobana now unleashes, Freefall. The title track itself opens proceedings and is the perfect illustration of Kobana's evolving style. Chunky staccato rhythms lure the listener into a dark melange of tension-filed pads and pitched riffs that rise in energy backed by hypnotic arpeggio line. A throbbing bass adds cavernous bottom end in a work that sharpens the senses in exhilarating fashion. Partner track, In the Loop immediately presents its deep house sensibilities with carefully considered opening chords. A bouncing bass line keeps the energy high and a rolling hi-hat house pattern is brought to the foreground in shining brilliance. Pitched pads and counterpoint riff mirror bass line in unifying fashion to create a work of organic magic.
