Amidst a musical fanfare mid-way through the year, a Proton Music highlight of significant import saw Kobana release his much anticipated debut artist album. Released a month earlier, the track Barsoom provided a taste of what was to follow with a typically innovative remix from Nick Stoynoff. Now, as the delights within The Riddle are fully realised, Proton 'returns to Mars' with brand new interpretations of Barsoom from a German legend and a rapidly rising Australian star. To those with discerning tastes, Marc Poppcke needs little introduction. A musical connoisseur from an early age and DJ first and foremost, performances in local clubs around his Hildesheim hometown quickly provided a growing fan base and a two-year residency at Hannover's club H.de.M. in the early 2000s. Moving to the capital to study at Berlin's School of Audio Engineering provided a further launch pad to success as the Meerestief and Diynamic imprints saw early collaborative work with Daniel Solar well supported. Further studies at Berlin's University of Arts saw the award of a Masters degree before a production career then skyrocketed. 2012's Displayed Emotions/History Repeating EP for Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat and 2013's Inner Conflict EP on Sasha's Last Night on Earth have been notable highlights, allied to further work for Parquet, Defected and Soma. With over a half-century of credits for his own Crossfrontier Audio also to his name, Proton Music is thrilled to welcome back Marc Poppcke after previous remixes of Fran Von Vie and Colourblock. Returning for a third outing, Poppcke's remix of Barsoom is full of the subtle melodic phrasing and dynamic rhythmic interplay that epitomises his work. Taking Kobana's track on a ten-minute voyage of discovery, audio cues from the original are cleverly used to optimum effect to create a delicious new interpretation that bristles with emotion. Australian, Kieran Krohn has grown rapidly within the underground music scene through a combination of hard work and no considerable talent. Head of the highly-regarded FutureForm Music imprint, Verve has brought a wealth of industry know-how and blue chip contact lists to fruition with a raft of successful releases, combining his own unique sound and brining the talents of Quivver, Andre Sobota and fellow countryman, Rich Curtis, to the fore. A production career that encompasses elemental fusion of minimal, tech, trance and techno has led to a sought after sound that has graced the catalogues of Lowbit, Indigo and Stereo Paradise while the Fusion EP on Particles, amidst remixes from Exoplanet, Ferdy and Kobana and Mario Hatchet, now sees Verve elevated to Proton Music once more after a successful remix of Tvardovsky's Hope in May. Taking an expert approach to his craft, the Verve remix of Barsoom combines the smooth melodic structures of Kobana's original with a strong house rhythm and hypnotic tape-delayed siren call that evolves and envelopes as it plays, bringing Verve's passion and attention to detail to the fore.
