A Proton Music favourite with their unique and highly emotive music, LADS return with another gold standard EP as Stoyote takes centre stage. A German and South African collaborative partnership has seen LADS constantly at the vanguard of modern underground dance music. Featuring the combined talents of Luc Angenehm and Gary Pilz, their work has seen the duo light up clubs in Berlin, Johannesburg and Pretoria with their unique live shows that have transformed their studio productions for club-goers across Europe and Africa. Moreover, production work has seen the duo hit the headlines for a host of blue-chip labels that include Rebellion der Traumer, Nie Wieder Schlafen, Mango Alley and Guy J's Lost and Found, remixing Eli Nissan's Arpu in late 2019. A Particles debut in September 2017 saw LADS working their remix magic on Andre Sobota's Concluded, before graduating to Proton Music the same month with a stunning original three-track debut in Miss Jean. The duo's techno flair and soulful mastery saw the twin track Hagel released in May 2018 as a quartet of remix from both EPs saw the combined talents of James Monro, Imran Khan and Huminal reworking the original material. No stranger to remixes themselves, LADS have reimagined Lanvary, Imran Khan and James Warren's Opiate. Returning for a third original EP on the label, the title track is a jewel-encrusted affair that glistens with a free-flowing and emotive central piano sequence. Intelligent use of counterpoint phrases sees stratified layers of sound permeate across the near 8-minute offering as an LFO synth waxes and wanes in the second half against grooved synths and syncopated bassline. Encased within a deep kick and head-shaking hi-hat cadence, the result is a classy piece. Joining forces with German artist, Traumhouse, himself a regular on Magician On Duty, Sag and Tre and One Of A Kind, Avem extends the rich melodious layers with flowing vibrato string passages and reverb-drenched piano phrases tied together in musical virtuosity. Housed within a rolling groove and laid-back percussion top-line, bassline depth anchors the various elements in an immaculate 4/4 structure. Concluding the EP, Angatara offers sparkling synth lines that hypnotise with their arpeggiated structure and endless delays. Working through complex phrases, a heavy bassline stab ping-pongs across proceedings before a muted pluck stakes over the phrasing pattern. A female vocal cut makes an intermittent entrance throughout adding depth and intrigue, while heavy beat and stripped back shell provides the perfect rhythmic accompaniment.
