(see preprod_titles.jpg) Released Halloween - 10-31-2019 * Dreamy, heavy shoegaze with dramatic post-rock swells and nuanced noisy outbursts. Ethereal vocals compliment the icy clean guitar lines in a series of swirling waves before the storm of dark hooks and trembling discord. Their thick, grungy underbelly is fueled by an arsenal of effects pedals, with a strong melodic core beneath it all. LACING's second album Without is their most compelling effort to date, a dynamic display of fuzz and beauty, stitched together with several hallucinatory interludes. Throughout the lyric writing process of Without, vocalist/guitarist Joseph Davenport found himself tapping into a chapter of his life that he thought was closed years ago. Growing up with an abusive and alcoholic father led Davenport to develop severe anxiety that would reach well into his adult years. These traumatic memories eventually became the foundational theme of this album. Recorded by Mikey Allred (INTER ARMA) at his Dark Art Studio in Nashville, Without is a follow up to 2017's Bummer which received acclaim from both critics and artists including Trevor Shelley de Brauw (PELICAN) who cited it as one of his favorite records on Bandcamp. * The four that form Lacing have been producing music for a few years now. And their first full-sized album Bummer from 2017 was lauded by many. Now they return with a follow-up entitled Without. Which follows nicely in the melancholic and shoegaze footprint that Bummer was. And where the debut already moved into more noisy and grungy area's; Without strolls along those borders even more. And crossing borders is what this album is all about. The four keep touching on those different 'styles' without ever committing to one, making the entire record a completely different kind of escapade. Energetic and heavy one moment and languid and draining the next. Add to this the seriousness of the lyrical content, spawned by the abusive childhood vocalist Joseph Davenport unfortunately had, but which therefor also taps into existential fears, angers and troubles; and it becomes a cathartic experience. They manage to discolor the long shades their music cast and turn it all into this almost ethereal fade of gray... - Stoner Hive - Oct 31, 2019 * I am pretty sure that we all can agree that the world is a heavy place to live right about now. For me, music plays a very important role in keeping my mind right. Sometimes I need blissful, sad music to make me feel whole again, which is why I love the new album from the Shoegaze band LACING so much. My thoughts are allowed to float away on the feedback on every track. * The sound of Chattanooga, TN's Lacing bears all the staples of textbook shoegaze in terms of a swirling mass of effects; fuzzed-out chords; cascading drones; and somber, somewhat monotone singing buried in the mix. However, on their forthcoming sophomore full-length, Without (coming next week via Elder Magick Records and Handstand Records: pre-order on either CD or LP), the quartet is pulling from a much deeper pool of influences-be they post-punk, grunge, hardcore, or beyond. On top of that, the album's impressively clear and textured recording really allows the details to break through and leave a mark. Not being the biggest shoegaze fan on Earth, this all adds up to one of the most diverse and exciting albums I've ever encountered from the genre, and "Regret" is an absolutely perfect example of why. "Lacing may obscure Joe Davenport's voice under a cirrostratus cloud of noise, but a sweet, cooing melody bursts through the oh-so-heavy shoegaze. The Chattanooga band flexes that sense of tunefulness in a surprisingly varied series of remixes for "92," everything from droopy dubstep to New Order-esque pop." - Viking's Choice, NPR -=- SHGZ -=- P.S. ** Thanks *** *** BCC FNT IPC SSR *** *** For Knowing Where The Music Is At *** *** Props to CaHeSo, awesome Asian Indie/Shoegaze *** *** And to FANG/HOUND for supporting all the Indie lovers out there *** --===-- ********************* * NuHS we miss you! * *********************
