Release : Larry Ellis And Black Hammer - Funky Thing Artist : Larry Ellis And Black Hammer Album : Funky Thing Genre : Funk Source : Vinyl Label : Funk 45 URL : Date : 2003-11-17 Quality : VBRkbps 44100 kHz Joint Stereo Tracks : 2 Time : 06:21 min Size : 8 MB A1 Funky Thing Part 1 2:58 B1 Funky Thing Part 2 3:23 More seriously rare funk, gathered from dusty master tapes that were previously thought of as lost forever. Originals of this probably change hands for an absurd amount like ú4000, but bringing legendary hard to get 45's at a bargain reissue drop down price has always been the ethos of Funk 45, thankfully. To cut a long story short, Funk master Larry Ellis & the Black Hammer band were on their way to the already booked studio, on the way their van happened to break down. Finally arriving with only 30 minutes recording time left, the band launched into their usual warm-up tune 'Funk Thing', it just happens by the time they finished, they had used up any stduio time they had. 'Funky Thing' Part 1 & 2 are the only recorded material which came from that session. The tracks themselves are slow builders, the swirling Hammond teases while the bass throbs before launching into a full-on frenzy of hats and splashes, feel it! Vocal funk isn't always the best, it can take away the impact of the tune itself unless the vocalist has something special, thankfully Larry Ellis doesn't sing much but when he does, it's fairly soulful. This tune is red hot, not a floor filler but a down right stormer. You should know by now that Funk 45 wouldn't release anything of low quality, 'Funky Thing' is a beast of a Funk tune that will have hardcore collector's and new fans drooling stupidly. Thankyou Funk 45 for uncovering this from the lost vaults. ----
